Spotify causing lag

The effect is very disorienting and the result is that I've developed a displeasure to go and change songs and try to open Spotify as little as possible. I'm not sure who the burden of fixing this is on, Spotify or Nvidia, but I'm mentioning it here also, and to see if anyone else has had the issue. If I disable hardware acceleration in Spotify, it's resolved.

However, then there is no acceleration, so the interface does not animate as nicely and, as I read, the acceleration setting also governs hardware sound processing. I can also resolve the issue by disabling GSync globally in the Nvidia control panel which is no solution. I then tried to add Spotify's. I can disable Gsync there, for Spotify only, and it seems to work but also has the effect of causing my monitor to fail to reliably activate Gsync in any other program while Spotify is running.

Oddly enough, after all of this swapping back and forth and ultimately changing the settings back to where they started hardware acceleration in Spotify on, Gsync on globally, and leaving the Spotify. The only difference is that I now have the executable listed in the appliction-specific settings list.

I don't expect it to continue to function correctly. It seemed that this problem began intermittently like this, with it only flickering seldomly, until arriving at the point it was before I came here, where it was always present. Has anyone else had this issue? I believe that both Spotify and Nvidia's drivers were updated within this timeframe, so it's not clear which caused it.

I'm having the same problem with my Acer Z monitor. With G-Sync on, the app itself is flickering both the spotify windows version and the one from windows store. Also when moving the window app, it's also not smooth when draging the window. But when the G-Sync is off, the flicking is gone but still stutters when draging the window. I should also add that I am only using one monitor currently. I am aware of the issue that Windows has with flickering and maintaining a stable, full high refresh rate when using multiple monitors where one is a much lower refresh rate than the other and there is animation on the slower monitor.

This effect that Spotify is having is the same. It's also worth nothing that this same thing has been seen in other places, such as the Windows lock screen.

I'm just verrrrrrry curious what changed to make it occur with Spotify. This seems to fix the problem for me. Click the arrow at the top right of the app right next to your name, click settings, scroll all the way down, show advanced settings, and disable "Enable Hardware Acceleration" under "Compatibility". As I stated in the original post, I'm aware of this, but that is not a fix as it disables the smooth interface animation and as I read somewhere, without researching it furtherit's also said to disable hardware sound processing.

For people who are willing to give Spotify another chance the last one you can downgrade to a earlier version by following the steps below:.

Step 0. Uninstall Spotify v1. Then download an old version from filehorse. Make a new empy text file right click, New Text Document works fine 2. Right click the file and make the file read only 1. Make a new empty text file 2. This method is easy to use and permanent.

If you get an automated reply email telling you to check the help section or the community, you need to reply back to it, even if it's from a no-reply address. This is really awkward. I tried to reinstall Spotify and the installer installed the 0,9 version.

From then on, the problem was gone What do I think of this? It's absolutely irresponsible and unacceptable from Spotify to launch such an awful update without the proper testings. This is fantastic!Everytime I use open. It's not because of hardware acceleration, I tried without it and the same result happens.

Once I close the spotify tab the computer immediately returns to normal so there's definately something going on between Chrome and Spotify. I tested the web player on Firefox with the same extensions and hardware acceleration and there is no issue with Firefox.

I'm copying the steps in full below:. View solution in original post. First make sure that your Chrome is up-to-date. If it is, could you try using an incognito window and see if it helps? Let us know how it goes! Chrome is up to date, same issue occurs in incognito. I even uninstalled any Chrome extentions and tried a fresh install of Chrome.

If not, check for saved local files on the Spotify app. If you have any local files source under the app's settings, disable them and see if it helps. I'm using a free account. There is 1 static banner ad when the webpage loads, I doubt it is causing the issue. I removed some playlists and it seemed to help by reducing the time it takes to load the site but once I play a song it consistently stutters my whole PC every couple of seconds, and it keeps doing that even after I pause the music.

And side note, the music plays back flawlessly while the rest of the PC stutters. I tried using the webplayer and Chrome on another PC and it works fine so it might originally be a bad Chrome install. I can't be bothered to reinstall Chrome when Firefox is working fine so I'll just use that.

I've got this same problem. Probably just gonna give up on Spotify altogether cause I need to be using Chrome.I'd really like to listen to music while I'm playing, but I'm unable to use Spotify for that purpose since whenever I'm listening to Spotify I get these several second lag spikes which is caused by my limited upstream bandwidth.

Spotify apparently uses p2p doesn't advertise it very much and while it does so, it uses ALL bandwidth it can get. It doesn't even matter if you're playing something, it's enough if Spotify is on. Please make a gaming mode or such that at least limits the amount of bandwidth used instead of using full upstream bandwidth if you don't want to disable it all together.

Right now I'm using Youtube whenever I'm gaming to listen to music and I'm not that far away from just unsubscribing from Spotify since the pros might not justify this big con. Go to Solution. If this post was helpful, please add kudos below!

I've had this problem since I got this computer. My old computer, an All-in-one desktop laptop parts with terrible specs would run it fine while I played League of Legends. Since I've had this computer, downloaded Spotify.

I'm using a gaming PC now, well enough to run BF4 on maximum graphic settings. It's not my PC. I thought it was, until I seen others having the problems.

The website isn't much better.

It also has a lot of restrictions as to what you can do with the player. Also chrome. It's not fine. Just played a game today where Spotify caused the game to lagspike like crazy.I'm using a Dell Latitude laptop work laptop. It has a fully updated version of Windows 7 bit.

Since the last update I think I've bee hearing crackling and stuttering in any and all tracks. Only Spotify. It works fine on my iPhone and my several Macs at home without issues. Only my Windows 7 machine that's causing the problem.

It is the bluetooth headphones. Trust me guys its the wireless headphones and bluetooth. Happy music with no more skippingthank god. Another solution is if you are using wireless headphones try unpairing then pairing again - that solved it for me. My Realtek audio driver seemed to be the issue on my PC. I was getting crackling on desktop app, web app, but never on my phone. Target the specific device you are trying to prevent crackling on Headphones, Speakers, etc. Select to "Update Driver Software".

Click on "Browse my computer for driver software". Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".

Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked. Click "Next". On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" install the driver.

Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.Disable hardware acceleration in Spotify solves the issue. I have exactly the same problem. Setting G-Sync to Fullscreen only or disabling hardware acceleration fixed it. I have to say, im really happy that I am not the only one experiencing this. Took me a few minutes to figure out what was causing my issues. While disabling HWA fixes the stuttering, is there a downside to quality and performance when doing so?

I in no way intend on turning off the windowed mode for G-Sync as some games simply only use windows mode, and fullscreen isnt an option. Disabling hardware acceleration also fixed this for me.

After about minutes after my pc boots up everything related to windows explorer it seems completely freezes. Switching between open windows doesn't do anything. Start button does nothing, media buttons on my keyboard do nothing. If there's any sound playing when it freezes, it loops the last split second making a horrific robotic kind of sound. The only way I've found to get out of this frozen state is to hit the reset button my PC case.

Everything else is completely unresponsive - I've left it frozen for about 3 hours before hoping it'd un-freeze itself eventually, but it didn't. So, I uninstalled Spotify and everything's fine and dandy again.

What's weird is, the freezing happens even if Spotify isn't even running. Has anybody else had any similar problems, or know of a way to fix this? I like Spotify! This thread is locked.
